In the spirit of SOLIDARITY, understood as participation in the community of the University treated as a common good, for the benefit of which one wants to act strongly and permanently, building good relations with other members of the community, showing them support in self-realisation and readiness to help, respecting all differences and dissimilarities that occur between people - unity in multiplicity, respect for every human being, for the values and culture of others, expressed in the Development Strategy until 2030, the Jagiellonian University endeavours to ensure ACCESSIBILITY for employees with specific/diverse needs.

ACCESSIBILITY means striving to ensure that the physical environment, digital space and the organisation of processes and methods of operation are such that disability and other special needs are not a reason for excluding anyone from learning, work and other areas of life.
Persons with specific needs are those who, because of their external or internal characteristics, or because of the circumstances in which they find themselves, need to take additional measures or apply additional resources to overcome a barrier in order to participate in various spheres of life on an equal basis with others. These include, for example, the following groups of persons:
  1. with mental health difficulties
  2. on the autism spectrum
  3. with dyslexia, dysgraphia and dysorthography
  4. with ADHD/ADD
  5. with chronic illnesses
  6. with physical disabilities
  7. blind and partially sighted;
  8. D/deaf and hard of hearing
  9. elderly
  10. pregnant women
  11. with caring roles (e.g. caring for children and/or adults)
  12. non-binary and transgender (or in transition)
  13. foreigners - persons for whom Polish is not their first language.
Ensuring barrier-free working opportunities for all persons employed at the JU is one of the objectives of the Jagiellonian University Accessibility Policy expressed in the Ordinance No. 20 of 22 February 2023 and a task of the Accessibility Centre under Ordinance No. 19 of 22 February 2023.
To this end, the UJ Accessibility Coordinator, Dr (JU Professor) Hubert Kaszynski, initiates and leads the work of the Expert Panel on Accessibility of the Working Environment, whose tasks include in particular:
  • advising the relevant Jagiellonian University authorities on adapting the working environment for persons with disabilities and persons with specific needs
  • developing and giving its opinion on proposals for support programmes and individual solutions for all persons with disabilities and persons with specific needs employed at the Jagiellonian University
  • considering individual requests and demands from all persons with disabilities and persons with specific needs.

The Jagiellonian University Accessibility Centre invites and encourages all JU employees with specific needs to engage in a dialogue on the development of the support offer. We believe that a participatory model, sustained by the ‘nothing about us without us’ approach, will be the best route to effective action.

In response to individual needs, we offer training in the use of assistive technologies, software and applications to support learning and work.

Please feel free to contact the JU Accessibility Centre at cd@uj.edu.pl. A face-to-face meeting in our office located in the Collegium Paderevianum II building is possible by appointment.

We encourage you to find out more about the possibility of creating an Individual Evacuation Plan.
