Foreign-language courses

Foreign-language courses

Students with visual and hearing disabilities can apply to have their compulsory foreign-language courses adapted to their needs.

You can participate in two types of course meetings:

  • with adaptations of the study process: when it is possible for a student with a disability to participate in standard course meetings with additional support
  • in dedicated course meetings taking into consideration the student’s health: when health issues make it significantly more difficult or impossible for them to participate in a standard group despite the application of additional support

Detailed information on the procedure for applying for participation in either of the above groups can be found in the presentation Applications for adapted foreign-language courses.

Those wishing to participate in dedicated courses are invited to visit the Accessibility Centre to register for classes (registration deadlines are the same as the generally accepted registration deadlines for language classes at the JU).

Students interested in learning English will be asked by the teacher to solve a language test to qualify for a given level of language proficiency. The number of participants on the course is low, which allows for effective learning.

Classes are held in a JU AC multimedia laboratory prepared for this purpose.

In groups for blind and partially sighted persons, materials adapted to the individual needs of students are used. Graphic materials useful for language learning are prepared in tactile form or taking into account the needs of partially sighted students. Students can also use electronic texts.

Classes for deaf and hard-of-hearing students are conducted in an interactive manner, enabling written communication, among other things thanks to an interactive whiteboard and a chat system.

All classes are conducted by teachers of the Jagiellonian Language Centre who are professionally trained for their work.
