Leo Constellation

Leo Constellation

The Jagiellonian University has been conducting activities in mental health crisis prevention since 2010. The Leo Constellation programme carried out in 2010–2012 was designed to students with mental health difficulties leading to impaired ability to study and adaptation issues.

This project was financed by the European Union under the Human Capital Operational Programme. The support for persons experiencing mental crises developed within the project has become a standard activity of many universities, and a broad discussion among the academic community on this subject has resulted in the creation of various programmes aimed at improving the well-being of undergraduate and doctoral students as well as employees across Poland.

Here, we present the educational materials developed as part of the two-year Leo Constellation project and during many years of activities dedicated to aid those experiencing mental problems. We are pleased that they have been and continue to be an inspiration on how to act to include and not exclude. We want them to continue to be a counterpoint to the ongoing debates on this topic and to contribute to a deeper understanding of the challenge of mental disorders and their consequences in social life.

Book My Journey

th cover of the book My Journey

The book breaks stereotypes and still present routine thinking concerning persons experiencing mental illness. Personal accounts and intense emotions, high drama and sometimes optimistic endings all contribute to the book's value. These stories point a way towards shaping the modern and tolerant university of the 21st century.

The publication is co-financed by the European Union under the European Social Fund.

We wholeheartedly encourage you to read it.

You can read the publication under the link My journey.

Film I am Human

The film I Am Human offers a literal portrait of what can happen to anyone and does happen to every fourth person in society yet is frequently brushed aside. With courage yet in a moving fashion, Jagiellonian University students describe their mental-health issues in the context of higher education. Accompanied by commentary from Edyta Dembińska, MD, PhD, a psychiatrist of the JU Medical College collaborating with the JU Disability Support Service, the material is recommended for universities, schools and teacher training centres.
