About the Centre (easy-to-read version)

What is the JU AC

The full name of the JU AC is the Jagiellonian University Accessibility Centre, which is a unit of the University. In this text we use the abbreviation ‘AC’.

What is accessibility and how we understand it at the University

For us, accessibility means the ability of persons with disabilities and diverse needs to fully participate in learning, work and events at the University.

  • persons who work at the JU
  • other JU units in need of advice on accessibility

Information for JU students

The AC advises and supports students with health difficulties, disabilities and multiple needs.

Students may contact the AC about such difficulties as:

  • disability
  • a long, serious illness
  • a sudden illness or accident
  • mental health-difficulties
  • autism spectrum disorders
  • reading and writing difficulties

Types of support

  • consultative sessions with an educational counsellor
  • adaptation of exams and classes to the needs reported
  • adaptation of learning materials
  • assistance from specialists in assistive technologies
  • training in applications and software to facilitate study
  • accessible language classes for students with sight/hearing disabilities
  • cooperation with lecturers
  • a stipend for persons with disabilities
  • an educational assistant

Information for other JU units

Additionally, the AC provides advice for other units of the University in matters related to accessibility.

The AC cooperates with all JU units in order to ensure that the University is a place open to persons with disabilities and diverse needs.

Our location

The AC office is located in Krakow, at 9A Mickiewicza Street, on the 4th floor.

There are two lifts in the building.

The Secretariat - your first contact place is located in room 410.

The Secretariat can be found in the right corridor.

It is the first door on the right side.

Getting to the AC

You can reach the AC by public transport.

MPK timetables

The nearest bus stop is called AGH/UR.

A parking space for persons with disabilities (known as the envelope) is available in front of the building (from Krupnicza Street).

The building is accessible for persons with disabilities.

Our working hours

The AC Secretariat is open Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 3:30 pm.

Accessibility advisers are on duty:

  • Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm
  • Fridays from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
  • Wednesdays are internal working days.

Interpretation in Polish Sign Language

It is possible to interact with us using Polish Sign Language (PSL).

You should report such a need before coming to the AC office.

There is also an active service of the Polish Sign Language interpreter (called Tłumacz Migam) available at the Jagiellonian University’s AC. To connect to the service, click on the sign language icon.

You can also visit us with your assistant dog.
